We are companions separated by life and death. What did I come here for if you are alone? BACKGROUND[TW: Child Abuse, Suicide, Murder, Bullying, Etc. Please be advised that there's a lot of triggering content in Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint.] Wiki Link (Contains heavy spoilers for the entire novel) Kim Dokja is the only son of Lee Sookyung and his father that is unnamed (other than having the surname Kim). From as early as he could remember, Kim Dokja had lived a life of suffering. His father was a raging alcoholic who often abused and beat both his mother and himself. As a child, all he knew was suffering until the situation came to a head and his father ended up dying in an act of self defense. His mother went to prison for killing his father. It's later revealed that Kim Dokja had been the one to kill his father and that his mother had taken the fall. Due to his mother's words and the trauma of him as a child; he had remembered the events wrong. His aunt and uncle took him in and his family life didn't improve. Kim Dokja was neglected and bullied at home and at school. His suffering only became worse when his mother releases a book about their lives. He's only still a kid when the story of his father's death and the abuse that his mother and him went through is out in the open for everyone to scrutinize. The media constantly are harassing him about the book his mother wrote, the relationship between him and his family he was living with is at an all time low, and the bullying at school only increases. At the young age of fifteen, Kim Dokja jumps out of a window to try and kill himself. Despite being so malnourished and weak (while he's fifteen, he has the stature of an elementary student), something had helped broken his fall to help him survive the fall. Even though he survived, he was still lonely and didn't have any desire to keep living. It was then by chance that Kim Dokja comes upon a certain webnovel. Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World. It is this novel that gives him the drive to keep living. It is later revealed that through a time paradox, the novel was specifically written for Kim Dokja's sake to keep living. Han Sooyoung is actually tls123 and she wrote it knowing the tragedies her companions and herself would face and damning Kim Dokja to his suffering so that he might survive. From fifteen in the hospital to being twenty-eight as a lowly salaryman on contract; Kim Dokja religiously read Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World. His life never improved all that time. He was still lonely and didn't know what it was like to be loved. His visits to his mother were strained and awkward as his mother never really spoke to him and all he could do was tell her about the webnovel that was helping him to keep moving forward. He quickly became independent; moving to live on his own and barely squeaking an existence. His school life was miserable and all he knows is misfortune. He fails his CSAT and gets into a third-rate university. When he does his military service, he ends up on the front lines. Even as the series starts, Kim Dokja is just a contracted worker and is soon to have his contract end. Yet, despite his miserable life, Kim Dokja reads his beloved webnovel and comments on every chapter. He becomes the sole reader of such a webnovel with 3159 chapters. The start of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint takes place on the subway, where Kim Dokja has read the final chapter of the novel and the beloved webnovel he read becomes reality. PERSONALITYKim Dokja is, at his core, an average person with no real discerning talent. That is to say, he is a man with nothing really going for him. At least that is probably how he would view himself. It is important to know how harshly Kim Dokja views himself. He considers himself a lonely and worthless figure who can easily calls his own actions pathetic. His self-deprecating nature stems from his lack of self-esteem and self worth. Growing up with nothing has him view the world constantly as someone who is very lonely with nothing to really look forward to. His smiles are described as 'unhappy' by others and it likely stems towards the fact that he barely had anything happy to look forward to most of his life. He struggles to see when others genuinely care for him and he constantly is someone who thinks that no one does something unless they are trying to get something in return. The world that was always cold to him has him think that people cannot do things without benefiting in some way. This is a rather ironic standpoint for someone who is as caring and loving and selfless as Kim Dokja was. While the way he does things can be considered cruel; it isn't done without care. He truly cares to the point that he would give up his life many times over to see that those he cared about got to the end. To him, who views his life as lowly, the survival of his companions were absolute. They easily were worth the pain of death and suffering.
